I got some space, I guess...
In both meanings of space
Sorry for the dad joke. I'm not only saying that I got distance, but also that I got involved with outer space exploration stuff.
I've been putting this website on hold for a long while because I got an internship. Studying in different places + doing an 8h a day internship took all of my time and sanity, but it was really fun, and really worth it. I learned a lot, I feel like I lived a lot too in the past few months, but right now this cycle is coming to an end... kind of. I'm stopping the internship to focus on my studies, so it's a next chapter now in my life. I was reading a book about ADHD, and it said about not making many promises or commiting too much, so I won't promise too many updates in here just yet, but now I'll have more time to play around in here...
Oh right, the outer space stuff I mentioned! The internship was all about Space Exploration, some stuff I worked with are classified (of course) but I wanted to share at least a glance of the interesting things I learned from it. I started to write a subpage on that under the Electronics section on my website, I want to put some useful information and instructions both for myself from the future and anyone interested in learning more of spacy techy stuff.
To be honest I never expected to work with space. A fun series of things happened and I got where I am. There I was, software development student, in my robotics club doing robotics club stuff, then a friend texted me. So it was like...
Friend: Hey, do you want an internship? It's like a summer internship program, it is for 3 months, they pay only _____ a month, but it's a job position to work with ROS2. If you're interested just send me your resume.
(ROS2 is a robotics thingie to make robot software)
Me: Yes, of course! Here it is *sends resume*
So yeah, I just applied through my friend and then received an email of a job interview. I just came to know what this company was about because my dad saw the email and he was like...
Dad: Son, do you know what company is this one you applied to?
Me: They said I was gonna work with robotics. Do you know it?
Dad: Yes, it is a multinational company, a famous one.
Me: Ok, cool.
Dad: It's bigger than the companies I've worked for, one of the most well known in the aerospace industry.
Me: So... are you trying to make me nervous on purpose or...?
Selective process happened, somehow I passed, started to work there, and only after I started I found out that I was assigned to the Space Exploration Team, to do space robotics stuff.
So... since most stuff is classified, I'm just gonna share what was publicly available from the cool things that I did (you can easily find these on LinkedIn). Just like this cute little space rover you can see in this image below!
This is an autonomous navigation rover. I didn't do the navigation part, but I did the camera guided excavation part. So yes, coding. Also I studied a lot of how to make a system space safe. Sometimes here and there I also helped to solder some wires and do some other electrical stuff. In the end of the day we presented its capabilities on an event called Dubai Air Show, it was a very valuable experience.
Summarizing it all, I spent some time doing space stuff, but now I'm gonna focus again on my studies, which means maybe adding more things to my website, including space related things. If you're curious about more space stuff I might be adding in the near future. If you're not, thanks a lot for reading my blog anyway :)
